Day 6: Scouring the garden for flowers

The last morning in Firenze took us to the Medici house, Pitti Palace,  and Boboli Gardens.  This is a stop I wanted because Firenze is said to be all a bloom this time of year and what better place to go than a garden?  Well, it’s not that kind of garden. We started the search flowers – we searched high & low, up long hills and down steep inclines.  We searched out the fountains, hoping they would be a bloom.  No flowers and actually no water flowing.  The fountains of Boboli Gardens are not like the fountains in Rome.  What we did find was a fountain with a bit of water, a lone volunteer flower and a (dry) fountain depicting a drunk dwarf riding a turtle!  Wonder how much that costs to ship home?

We stopped in the Medici house called Pitti Palace.  Large, but not otherwise impressive on the outside, turns into massive rooms and opulence on the inside.  We toured the Silver Museum which really had more than silver pieces.  I am always amazed at the detail of both the treasures and wall paintings.

This marked the end of our time in Firenze.  An easy train ride this afternoon took us to The City of Water – Venice.  We are all set with our 2-day vaporetto passes and are ready for what tomorrow brings.  Buona notte!
