Friday morning, we scarfed down a tasty homecooked breakfast (thanks Laura) and caught up with Blair and Laura – our stay was too short, and we’re already planning a return visit! Stephanie and Janet headed home with the trucks and trailers, and Terry, Brian, Matt, and I started our ride. We packed lunches and rolled out in mid-50° sunny weather (our entire trip had lows in the 50s and highs in the upper 70s and no rain – insane for late October).

On Thursday, October 26, Stephanie, Brian, and I headed out from Piney Flats (Brian came up from Florida on Wednesday). Matt and Janet left Kingsport and picked up Terry in Mendota, meeting us along our way to Penmerryl Farm in Greenville, VA.

A year into my dual-sport / adventure riding experiment, I’ve done quite a bit of gravel, some forest service roads, and a bit of single track. Six of us – Terry, Matt, Brian, Guy, Grady, and me – wanted to take on the Mid Atlantic Backcountry Discovery Route (MABDR).
